Introduction: Washer Drum Fire Pit
There comes a time when things break down and need replacing. Well instead of tossing the washing machine that failed after many years of use, I decided to turn it into a fire pit.
If you don't have an old washer, you can always check your local scrap yard and pick one up.
- 1 old washing machine
- Gloves, safety glasses. Proper PPE
- Socket set
- Wrench set or a couple of adjustable wrenches
- High Temp spray paint (any color)
Step 1: Removing the Drum
Not all washers are the same but they are all held together with nuts and bolts.
Figure out the proper size socket or wrench needed to remove the drum from the washer casing.
I started by removing the main outer casing of the washing machine.
From there I discovered that my machine had a plastic housing around the drum.
I found 3 bolts on the bottom that I removed and then slipped the plastic off of the drum.
Step 2: Cleaning and Painting
Next, clean the inside and outside of the drum using soap and water.
Once dried it's time to paint!
I used a high-temperature black paint that I picked up from my local hardware store.
Any color of paint will work and allows for your own unique flair.
Step 3: Optinoal Finishing Touches
Once the paint is dry you can add legs to the bottom or leave it as is. It can be slightly buried in the ground or set on a flat stone or rock bed. Then enjoy the warmth of your new fire pit!
