How to Use a Band Saw

Introduction: How to Use a Band Saw

  • Miter Saw
  • material in which to cut
  • pencil/ writing utensil
  • power source

Step 1: Step 1: Mark the Material Where You Would Like to Cut

Using a pencil or another writing utensil, draw a line where you want to cut. This will serve as a guideline for once you actually have to make the cut.

Step 2: Step 2: Make Sure the Saw Is Plugged In

If the saw is not plugged into a power source it will not turn on and you will not be able to use it. Many people leave their power tools unplugged to prevent injury from tripping on the wire or bumping the on button.

Step 3: Step 3: Turn the Saw On

On many Band Saws there is an on/off switch. This should be located on the back of the saw as indicated in the diagram. Once the saw is turned on the band will start spinning and the saw will be able to cut effectively. MAKE SURE TO WEAR YOUR SAFETY GLASSES.

Step 4: Step 4: Start Cutting

When you start to cut your material you want to slowly move the material through the spinning blade. To get the most precise cut, cut right next to your guideline to account for the lost material.

Step 5: Step 5: Turn Off the Band Saw

Once your cut is complete to turn of the machine you simply turn the on/off switch. After this is done you can either wait for the blade to stop or you could press a piece of wood, or some other material, against it to cause friction and slow down the saw even faster. Once this is done I recommend unplugging the band saw to decrease the chance of an accident.
