Introduction: $1.39 Baseball Throwing Aide
Want to throw the baseball faster, longer or quicker? This is for dads, moms, coaches and all types of people who throw a ball for fun or sport! Well, I had a friend tell me about this about 15 years ago and made one last night for a friend's son. He had never heard of it. SO, I thought to make one here too!
Step 1: Items Needed
You will need a few things that you must have around the house. If not a package of three tennis balls cost about 2 or 3 dollars. About a dollar fifty in pennies. A pen/marker and a razor knife or sharp pocket knife. Children should always be supervised when using sharp knives. Please be responsible.
Step 2: Place and Mark
Might be a little tricky. But, you can hold the penny and mark it. I had to take the picture, so I balanced it... yay me, right? Anyway, get as close as you can to the penny, as you can always make the slot larger, not smaller. We are moving right along!
Step 3: DANGEROUS!!!
Please, take your time here. The last thing you want to do is rush this step. You may have to squeeze the tennis ball a bit in order to cut into it. No gas will come exploding out nor is is toxic. But it takes a bit of strength to get the knife to go in. THE MOST important part of this step is where you place your thumb! DO NOT PUT IT UNDER THE KNIFE, no matter how natural it feels or how much easier it would be to cut into the ball... You will really hurt yourself if that knife slips. Be patient and you can do it juuust fine.
Step 4: Fill 'er Up!
Might take around 5/6 minutes. Take the time to stop and shake the ball around. Maybe drop it on the floor a few times to really get the pennies to sit and fit well. I opened a roll of pennies at a time. You can use pennies from anywhere. I chose the rolls to make a better instructable. You may find that the slot is too small. Enlarge the slot by the smallest of margins, because the action of putting the pennies in will actually widen the slot too. I used exactly 1.39 if you wanted to know the amount I could fit.
Step 5: Let's Play Ball!!!
Tried to show it all filled up. You now have a very good training aid. Get outside and start close. Do not throw at anyone, ever. This will help all the positions. From the outfield to the pitcher and even the catcher. Let's play ball!
